Please visit their websites for fares and schedules. The Bar Harbor - Bangor Shuttle runs from the Bangor bus terminal to Bar Harbor.
TRAVELING BY AIR
Bar Harbor Airport / Hancock County Airport is located in Trenton, across the MDI Bridge, about 11 miles away. It has a limited number of regional carriers and has rental cars available. The Island Explorer free bus service (see below) has one route which includes a stop at the airport and ends at the Bar Harbor Village Green, one block from Eden Center Cottage.
Bangor International Airport is serviced by a number of major airlines and is approximately an hour away by rental car or by the Bar Harbor - Bangor Shuttle.
The Portland Jetport is also serviced by a number of carriers and is approximately 3 hours away by car.
Logan Airport in Boston is approximately a 5 hour drive.
TRAVEL ON MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
The Island Explorer is a free bus service running fixed (and pretty predictable) schedules for 7 different routes throughout MDI in the summer months and one of those routes has a stop just across the MDI bridge in Trenton. Some buses have bike transport capability as well. This wonderful, convenient, congestion-reducing service is provided in large part by a grant from the LL Bean Company (their original home store is located in Freeport, Maine, north of Portland, and is open 24 hours in case you are traveling from that direction. They also have an outlet store in Ellsworth, Maine on the road to Bar Harbor.)
Additional travel on MDI is, of course, by row boat, kayak, bike, golf cart, horseback, horse-drawn carriage or foot !
